‘That Tastes Healthy’ Is NOT a Compliment!
When I say healthy food, what is the first thing that pops in your mind?
Okay, now that you have that food in your mind, picture yourself eating it.
Is it delicious?
Are you excited?
In other words…..
Are your eyes rolling back in your head?
Yes? That’s great! Chances are you find it pretty easy to stay committed to eating healthy.
And if you answered NO, I totally get it. There are a lot of ‘healthy’ foods out there that taste…well….healthy. (And that is NOT a compliment!)
If your idea of eating healthy conjures up boring, tasteless food, it can be very challenging to stay motivated. I mean, who can blame you for wanting some delicious, exciting food in your life?
That’s why I teach students how to make healthy food taste delicious using my 3-F’s formula in my Natural Foods Training Course.
Here is one way (the first F!) to make healthy food more delicious and exciting:
Focus on Fat: Go back to the healthy food you were thinking about….now, add some healthy fat, like avocados, olives or nuts to it.
For example, take leafy greens—one of the healthiest foods you can eat:
Steamed Leafy Greens with just a squirt of lemon?
Healthy and ‘Tastes Healthy’.
You feel good after you eat it but part of you feels deprived and there’s a gnawing sensation deep in your belly for more food!
Sautéed Leafy Greens with Warm Avocado?
Healthy and Tastes Delicious.
You feel good after you eat it and the good fat in the dish leaves you feeling satisfied long after you eat it.
One of my students had this to say after the Spring Natural Foods Training:
“The food in this class is *shockingly* delicious. And I have never felt more satisfied. After our meals, I didn’t even think about food throughout the day and then, when making my regular dinner, I took some foods *out* just before cooking because I still felt deeply satisfied.”~Kala
If you’d like to learn ways to make healthy eating more delicious and exciting, my Fall Natural Foods Cooking Training Course is October 4-7th and there is an early bird price when you register by September 14th. For more information, click here.
And speaking of delicious, below is a recipe for Sautéed Greens and Warm Avocado.

Chard & Avocado Sauté
Serves 4-6
Reed avocados are larger and firmer than Hass, and perfect for a cooked dish like this one.
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 large yellow onion, sliced
1 pint cherry tomatoes, washed and stemmed
3 cloves minced garlic
2 bunches Swiss chard, washed and chopped (tough stems removed)
1/2 cup vegetable broth
Salt and pepper to taste
1 large Reed Avocado, peeled and cut into chunks
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, tomato and garlic and sauté for 5 minutes, or until the cherry tomato begin to burst. Add the chard, broth and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Cover and cook for 5 to 8 minutes more or until greens are bright green and tender. Remove from heat. Fold in avocado chunks, sprinkle with lemon juice, season to taste with salt and pepper and serve.
